I went to see Up this weekend. I was unprepared emotionally and got my ass handed to me. Had to keep the 3D glasses on as I walked to my car to hide my reddened eyes.

And all the children in the theater were crying for different reasons: This movie is WAY too intense for kids.

I thought the Hangover was A-, and only because it ran too long. Cut 15-20 minutes off it (especially near the end) and it's A+ in my eyes. I found it so much better than all the Apatowian "guy comedies" that have been making the rounds. Actually, Apatow could have made this movie with Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen and I probably would have hated it...but Zach Galifinakis is just too good.

Ugh, The Hangover wouldv'e been awful with the Apatow crew in tow. One of the benefits of this amazing film is that it shows that a comedy can succeed without Apatow's name attatched. For awhile it was beginning to look like that was no longer the case.

I'm sure I would have liked The Hangover a lot more about three years ago. I think I may just be burned out on zany guy films.

The more I think about it, the less enthusiastic I am about Up. All the emotional stuff works, but the talking dogs and cookie-cutter villain seem like generic Disney fodder. (And if you invent a device that can make dogs talk, isn't that much, much better than bringing back the stupid bird?)
